tameera - Personal Development and WellbeingHow are you feeling today? Busy? It’s how most of us respond without realising. Our stress levels are up, many of us working and studying whilst stuck in a daily grind.

It often takes me to get away – far away to realise how stuck I’ve become.  I should know better though…   Right now I’m in the tropics, I can hear the cicadas singing whilst smelling the warm night air.  People are in shorts and singlets. Life has slowed down.  My Internet is not working and I don’t really care.  What day is it again? I’ve stopped looking at the clock for the first time in months yet had a super productive day moving at my own pace.  I feel happy.

Being in the moment, you know when you’re there.  We stop worrying about the small things and start to feel again.

The digital age is a blessing for sure yet in many ways it’s also de-sensitised us.   How many times have you received a Facebook message or email and not responded or messaged back days or weeks later with sorry I’ve been sooo busy!

My paperless office is not paperless. I also have multiple computers and email accounts, pages of passwords, websites to maintain, social media accounts with friends to keep occupied, mobile phones, apps, photos to edit and blogs to write (which I’m behind in), text messages to send, phone calls to make and emails to write….do you like this?!  Are you following me?  I for one didn’t see it coming but am curiously in the thick of it.

Another side affect of the ‘paperless office’.  My body often stops moving properly.  I sometimes have trouble turning my head or moving my shoulder.   My friend told me to pack ice on it for 5 minutes.  Stop working so hard. Turn off your computer. Just stop.  But I have so much to do – I am so busy!  You know?

When I’m not travelling, I feel good from small things like taking a yoga, meditation or art class, getting away to a retreat for the weekend, turning off the computer after sunset, catching up with friends, having a simple massage or acupuncture treatment, going for a bike ride with my husband and hanging out with my dog.

In fact my dog Max teaches me a lot about all of this. I’ve even caught him doing a few cool yoga moves.  He’s a great listener and is never too busy for me. He has no computers or clothes, no social media accounts, emails or mobile phones.  Life is beautiful when we go to the park and play ball, take a swim at the beach, have dinner or see someone we know.  He loves unconditionally and never gets upset (with me anyway….) He lives every day in the moment, like it was his last.  Yet he has routine and spontaneity rolled into one.

Finding balance, remembering the beauty in life, inspiring others and being in the moment – my dog is a great teacher and one day I hope to be as wise.
