How can I make a living from loving what I do? I recently met with friends who have jobs they work hard to forget about. An amazing chef who likes making his own music but works in a surf club playing 80’s disco hits with a take away menu. The other speaks a few languages, is well travelled, creative and loves being around people – yet works stacking supermarket shelves so she can travel to India for a few months to get away from it all…
Why do some people find their passion and live their dream whilst others remain in a dream, not fulfilling their destiny?
My parents were born in the 1940’s – from the lower class of Scotland immigrating to Australia via the 10-pound boat in the early 70’s. Living through the depression, all they knew was hard work. I was brought into in an era of school; travel then a job to pay the bills. I was cautioned against following my heart, a ‘secure job’ was what I needed. I could afford to go on holidays, buy a house, have money. I’d find success and be happy. Luckily I discovered life is so much more.
I found myself questioning the meaning of life from an early age. What was all this about? The daily 9 to 5 felt suffocating for me. I worked, saving for holidays to make me feel better from the unchanging routine I’d found myself in. My spirituality grew as I travelled and studied metaphysics, astrology, numerology, alternative therapies and more, taking me to where I am today as Director of Light Stays where I holistically help people find direction in life and build their wellbeing businesses.
Sometimes your passion comes easily. I read about a girl, Heidi Hillier who became a professional hoola hooper after joining the local circus to get fit – she now performs for thousands of people and travels the world. I have friends who loved riding bikes as kids and now get paid to build or ride them.
If you’re having trouble moving forward try a retreat to re-energise and focus on you. Numerology and astrology can help pinpoint what you’re good at, understand your personal year cycles and learn how to best use your energy. Meditating helps to visualise goals whilst yoga helps you centre and keep your body stress free, which is a good thing right?
Learning about vision boards is another way to manifest, cut out pictures of things you like and want to bring into your life. Stick them on cardboard and look at daily to remind you where you’re headed.
Need inspiration? To help your thoughts flow – take a long walk, go for a bike ride or a jog. If you’re injured try some gentle yoga or my serotonin boosting exercise.
– What did you want to be when you grew up?
– If you could do anything in the world what would you do?
– Email, phone or Facebook a close friend or family member and ask what they think you’re good at.
– Have a hobby you love? Write it all down.
Maybe you’re well read and twitter all day – try writing an E-book or get paid to blog. Love walking dogs? Build a business and turn it into your career…
Money is energy; you can work for it or find your passion and have it work for you. If someone can make a living from swinging a hoola hoop you can make money from what you love doing too. The Pyramids in Egypt were built with simple tools and vision – there’s always a way…
